SL4 3BZ We last went to Windsor in 2022 to mark the late Queen's platinum jubilee, when we visited the Bexley Arms. Today we venture to new pastures - The Windsor Trooper is an 18th century pub with a good selection of ales, traditional cider and Belgian beers. They're also the first pub to achieve 'The double', winning both Slough, Windsor & Maidenhead CAMRA Pub of the Year 2025 and Cider Pub of the Year 2025, the latter being held consecutively for 4 years. The pub also accept one '50p CAMRA voucher' per day. Food is available from the normal menu until 17:00, but from 17:30 there is generally a pizza van outside to provide sustenance. The pub is a 12 mins walk from Windsor & Eton Central Railway Station.

The Amwell Ambler Friday 17 July 2026 and Friday 21 August 2026 Calling all Amwell Springs Brewery fans. On Friday 17th July and Friday 21st August take an evening heritage train ride from Wallingford to Cholsey and visit the Amwell Springs brewery tap room. Our heritage train service from Wallingford will take you to Cholsey mainline station, where it is a 15 minute walk across the fields to the brewery taproom. Alternatively, enjoy unlimited trips throughout the evening and enjoy your beer on the train. Hourly departures from Wallingford between 17.30 and 21.30, coming back from Cholsey until 21.50. Allow yourselves plenty of time to find your way back to the station! Tickets are £10 per adult, including a souvenir glass, with accompanied children travelling for free. £1 off all real ales at Amwell Springs when you show your CWR ticket and glass. A range of Amwell beers and other drinks will be available on the train. Tickets are valid on any train and allow for unlimited travel. The Waverley Merrymaker Saturday 18 July 2026 Departing from Crewe, Warrington Bank Quay, Wigan North Western, Preston, Lancaster We recreate one of the famous British Rail Merrymaker trains of the 1970.s for a fabulous day tour travelling over the Northern Fells and Beattock Summit to Edinburgh for a sightseeing break, returning along the coastal East Coast line through Berwick upon Tweed and the scenic Tyne Valley. We travel north to the border city of Carlisle thence past the Solway Firth and through the beautiful Scottish Lowlands with the highlight of the journey being the steep climb to spectacular Beattock Summit for an arrival into Edinburgh Waverley station, and an afternoon break of around 3 hours. The station is located just below one of the UK's most historic and popular shopping areas - Princes Street, with its international stores on one side and the beautiful gardens on the other. We return in the late afternoon along the coastal route through Berwick upon Tweed with views of Lindisfarne and at Newcastle we take the Tyne Valley line through Hexham with distant views of Hadrians Wall. The train is hauled on the outward journey by our vintage Class 50 locomotive D400 (50050) and then on the return journey by 45118 'The Royal Artilleryman'.

Serving from 1961 until 1994, Douglas Ferreira played a significant role in developing the railway into one of the UK's most loved heritage attractions and helping secure its future for generations to come. Today, the locomotive continues to carry thousands of passengers through the beautiful landscapes of the Lake District National Park each year. See 100-Year-Old Quarryman in Action As if one birthday celebration wasn't enough, visitors will also have the opportunity to meet a much older member of the railway family. The recently restored Quarryman, a rare narrow-gauge locomotive from the Ravenglass Railway Museum collection, is celebrating its centenary year. Weekly Wind-Up #2258 2258 ? 23 July 2026 OTFORD (OTF) The Old House, Ightham Common, Otford, Kent. TN15 9EE Two years ago we paid a first visit to celebrate Keith Molloy's birthday. Today Keith has arranged a bus, new to the Wind-up, to repeat the event. This Grade II listed Kentish red brick and tile-hung cottage comprises an entrance lobby and two separate bars, the public bar featuring a Victorian wood-panelled counter, parquet flooring and an imposing inglenook fireplace. The quiet parlour bar houses a chaise-longue. There is also some outside seating. Up to six beers are dispensed by gravity from the tap room, always including at least one bitter, a golden ale and a dark beer from an impressive range of breweries. Food is not available. The bus will leave from Otford station at 17:10, returning in time for the 20:25 train. Otford is served by Southeastern and Thameslink - check your arrival time and don't miss the bus! Either The Bull or The Woodman serve as 'waiting rooms' in Otford High Street, both west of the station. The bus was full last time, so if you haven't yet reserved a seat please go to the following survey and reserve one to avoid disappointment!
Rail Ale Friday 24th July 2026 Sheffield Park & Horsted Keynes Divider Enjoy a Friday evening with steam, real ale, sausage & mash meal and live music. Back again for 2026 is our Rail Ale Special, where you can enjoy a hand-picked selection of some of the finest real ales from across the country that are available both on the train and at Sheffield Park and Horsted Keynes stations. And best of all, the first pint is on us! Board the train at either Sheffield Park station (6pm departure) or East Grinstead station (6:55pm departure) for a trip through the Sussex countryside whilst enjoying the first selection of real ales, available from the bar on the train, before alighting at Sheffield Park, where your sausage & mash supper will be served in the Bessemer Arms. Whilst enjoying your meal, there will be a chance to sample further real ales from the Bessemer Arms bar. After your meal, board the train for an 8:35pm departure bound for Horsted Keynes, where you can enjoy the music from our live band on the platform. The King George V bar will be open, offering a further selection of real ales, and of course, the bar on the train will still be open, giving you even more choice. Your return train will then depart from Horsted Keynes at 9:50pm, travelling to East Grinstead, arriving at 10:15pm, before returning to Sheffield Park at 11:13pm. A limited selection of wines and soft drinks will also be available from the bar on the train and the Bessemer Arms and King George V bars.
The Yorvik Discovery Saturday 25 July 2026 Step aboard our special train, running exclusively on Saturday 25th July, for a memorable day excursion to the historic city of York and the much-loved seaside resort of Scarborough. With departures from Dundee and convenient pick-ups at Cupar, Kirkcaldy, Inverkeithing, Edinburgh and Dunbar, it's easy to step aboard and let the adventure begin. Travel together in beautifully restored British Rail Mk1 carriages, where spacious seating and large windows make it easy to relax and enjoy the views. Our train is hauled by British Rail Class 50 50050 (D400) 'Fearless', with our own British Rail Class 37 37025 'Inverness TMD' taking charge between York and Scarborough. On board, there's something for everyone. Enjoy the comfort of at-seat dining with a hearty breakfast on the outward journey and a delicious three-course evening dinner on the way home. Prefer something more casual? Our buffet car offers hot and cold drinks, morning rolls and plenty of snacks to keep little travellers smiling throughout the day. Spend time exploring York's fascinating streets and historic attractions, or head to Scarborough for sandy beaches, traditional seaside fun and fresh sea air. However you choose to spend your time, this relaxed and enjoyable rail tour offers a wonderful way to travel creating memories that will last long after the journey ends. Our journey begins in the City of Dundee, where we warmly welcome our first passengers on board before heading south into the Kingdom of Fife. Shortly after departure, we cross the iconic Tay Rail Bridge. To the left, the stumps of the original bridge can still be seen ? a poignant reminder of the historic 1879 disaster that shaped railway history. We arrive at Cupar before continuing to our next pick-up point, Kirkcaldy, gathering more guests as we make our way along Scotland's scenic east coast. Our journey then takes us to Inverkeithing, a convenient boarding location with a large free car park and easy access from the M90. Soon after, we cross the magnificent Forth Bridge ? a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Scotland's most recognisable landmarks. This iconic Victorian engineering masterpiece is always a highlight, offering breathtaking views across the Firth of Forth and an unforgettable sense of history. Our next pick-up is at Edinburgh Waverley railway station, located in the heart of the capital, with excellent public transport connections for our guests. Our final Scottish boarding point is Dunbar. We then head south along the renowned East Coast Main Line, passing through Newcastle and Durham ? where spectacular views of Durham Cathedral and the city's dramatic viaduct often draw admiring glances from the carriage windows. Arriving in the historic city of York, we bid farewell to some of our guests. Our train then reverses direction and continues towards the beautiful seaside resort of Scarborough, where elegant promenades, sweeping bays and fresh sea air provide the perfect coastal finale to our journey. York and Scarborough - Free Time We hope to be able to provide approximately 4 hours of free time in York, allowing plenty time to experience everything that York has to offer. For those who choose to stay on board for Scarborough, we hope to have 2 hours of free time allowing adequate time to wander down to the sea front. The Discovery Double Sunday 26 July 2026 Join us for a relaxing short journey from Dundee to Stirling and Falkirk Grahamston aboard our comfortable MK1 coaches. Sit back and enjoy the scenic route behind our very own recently overhauled 37025 'Inverness TMD' and LSL Class 50, 50050 'Fearless'. Following the excitement of our York and Scarborough tour the previous day, this is quite simply the easiest and simplest way to get back home. Please note this positioning move on Sunday 26 July 2026 is planned to be a Class 37 with the Class 50 on the rear from Dundee. Our special train departs Dundee at a relaxed, sociable time, with convenient drop-offs at Stirling and Falkirk Grahamston. From Dundee, we follow the River Tay towards Perth before heading diverting towards Ladybank at Hilton Jn. At Glenrothes our train heads towards Dunfermline City before turning on the the freight only line to Alloa, a much requested route, as we head towards our first drop off at Stirling. Stirling and Falkirk Grahamston offer excellent onward connections, with regular ScotRail services to Stirling, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Fife and the north, allowing guests to continue their journeys home with ease. The train is operated by our Partners at Locomotive Services Limited. This train is Standard Class only with a buffet service available throughout and is a single fare only. Weekly Wind-Up #2259 2259 ? 30 July 2026 HORSELL (Train to Woking, WOK) The Crown, 104 High St, Horsell, Woking, Surrey. GU21 4ST? Since our visit to The Crown last year the associated Thurston's brewery has sadly ceased, but the pub remains a gem! There has been a pub on the site since 1785 and probably back to 1613, but the two-bar village community pub we see today was rebuilt in 1877 after a fire. A dark beer has been requested amongst the range - the current beer list may be found via the RealAleFinder app - download it from www.Realalefinder.com The pub is about a mile from Woking station, served by frequent trains from Waterloo / Clapham Junction. White Bus services 73 and 48 stop nearby, but are infrequent.
