    Weekly Wind-Up - Weekly Wind-Up #2259

Weekly Wind-Up #2259 2259 ? 30 July 2026 HORSELL (Train to Woking, WOK) The Crown, 104 High St, Horsell, Woking, Surrey. GU21 4ST? Since our visit to The Crown last year the associated Thurston's brewery has sadly ceased, but the pub remains a gem! There has been a pub on the site since 1785 and probably back to 1613, but the two-bar village community pub we see today was rebuilt in 1877 after a fire. A dark beer has been requested amongst the range - the current beer list may be found via the RealAleFinder app - download it from www.Realalefinder.com The pub is about a mile from Woking station, served by frequent trains from Waterloo / Clapham Junction. White Bus services 73 and 48 stop nearby, but are infrequent.

    Weekly Wind-Up - Weekly Wind-Up #2260

Weekly Wind-Up #2260 2260 ? 6 August 2026 BRENTFORD (BFD) Black Dog, 17 Albany Rd, Brentford. TW8 0NF We return to the 'Black Dog Beer House' earlier this year so that we may make use of the garden in this often very busy pub. Run by Pete and Ash, this former CAMRA pub of the year generally has four real ales and three ciders on hand pump, together with many craft keg options. A dark beer has been requested for our visit and food is also available. Class 458 'Juniper' units are on borrowed time (again!). At the time of writing there are only four diagrams remaining, including some trains to Brentford. There are occasionally substitutions for 701s on the Windsor line too. This will probably be your last chance to have one, if you really need to.....

UPDATE 11/07/2026: 125 Group is sorry to advise that the proposed start of our Paignton trip at Bury has been refused by Network Rail . Apparently, there is no ongoing approval to use the connection from the East Lancs. Railway in passenger service, despite having operated as recently as the end of May, and fresh approval will require 14 weeks to process. We are very disappointed with this situation, having previously been assured that the approval was in place. We are reviewing our options to start as close as possible to the advertised departure point and it seems likely that Rochdale will become the start and finish point, with all other previous pick ups retained. For those in the far south west, we are looking to see whether we can offer an Exeter to Paignton return - subject to availability of space. We will add this to the booking site shortly, although may have to limit numbers sold until we are more certain of booking levels to Bristol and Exeter. We will update this post as soon as we have confirmation on these changes and apologise again for any inconvenience caused.

Bluebell Railway - Giants of Steam

Giants of Steam Friday 16th October to Sunday 18th October 2026 The Bluebell Railway's much-loved Giants of Steam gala returns this October. Celebrating the power, presence, and prestige of Britain's largest and most impressive steam locomotives. Following the success of previous Giants of Steam events ? which have seen some of the country's most famous heavy express engines working intensive services across the line ? the 2026 gala promises another unforgettable weekend of big engines, big sounds, and big spectacle. BR 9F No. 92134 will be visiting us for Giants Of Steam 2026* Built at Crewe Works in 1957, 92134 is a symbol of the final era of British steam. As part of the BR Standard Class 9F fleet, it was designed for immense power, tasked with hauling heavy mineral and freight trains across the network. While built for strength, these 'Gentle Giants' were famously versatile?even occasionally outrunning dedicated express engines on passenger turns. 92134 is particularly special as a survivor of the single-chimney design. After a long road from the famous Barry Scrapyard through a dedicated restoration, it stands today as a living testament to 1950s engineering excellence. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Self Family and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR). Their generosity and hard work in maintaining this icon have made it possible for 92134 to join our 2026 Giants Weekend line-up. Joining 92134 for Giants Of Steam 2026 is 71000 Duke of Gloucester* Built at British Railways' Crewe Works in 1954, Duke of Gloucester is the sole member of the BR Standard Class 8 Pacifics and one of the most fascinating steam locomotives ever constructed. Designed under R. A. Riddles, it featured advanced engineering including three cylinders and Caprotti valve gear, representing the ultimate development of British steam locomotive design. Although its potential was not fully realised during BR service, the locomotive was saved from scrapping and underwent an extensive preservation-era rebuild that corrected its original design flaws. Since returning to steam in 1986, Duke of Gloucester has proven itself to be a powerful, efficient, and highly capable express locomotive ? a true giant in every sense. Its appearance at the Bluebell Railway offers a rare opportunity to see this unique locomotive operating in a heritage setting, adding considerable prestige to the 2026 event.
